Osaka Garden

Now this was pretty cool.  I've been to the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco, which is a highly recommended stopover.  Though it's heavily frequented by tourists, it's not touristy, and hasn't lost its appeal.

Mars Observation Events

This month, Mars will make the closest approach to Earth in human history, appearing much larger and brighter than usual.

Sevaral mars observation events are planned at Adler Planetarium, including three Mars Madness Sky Parties are also planned...

  • Friday, August 29th, 9pm - midnight
  • Friday, September 5th, 9pm - midnight

Trees!

Living in Chicago has its downside... I've long forgotten the color green.  In my quest for a greener life, I've discovered the Lake County Forest Preserves website, which includes excellent maps.

The site also has good information regarding the West Nile virus (important to us mosquito-magnets).

"Wild Reef" Exhibit Opening at Shedd

Shedd has opened a new wild reef exhibit, which involved creating an entirely new wing in the museum (the dolphins and beluga whales have not been displaced).

Haven't seen it, but it sounds well done.
